I woke up this morning knowing it was going to be a busy day. Well, at least that is the belief that I sent out into the Universe.
It was necessary for me to wake up at 6:30am which I dislike greatly. My ego was in turmoil over this. The negative thoughts started pouring forward. Ugghhh, "today is going to be a busy day, I am tired, today is going to be hard, why am I getting up so early.?"
This bad attitude has me thinking about why I am doing what I am doing. My project for today is fun, easy and I am spending time with a great group of people. In my mind though, I have set it up as goals I need to accomplish. I must wake up at this time and then be here by then, and then do this, and that, and then that.
The whole experience has catapulted me back to my corporate days when I did really wanted to do much of anything I had goaled my self to do. Those goals weren't my own. I was at someone else s mercy. Every task was "goal this" and "plan that" and there was so much time spent on achieving the goal, I missed the experience. Plus, where were my wants and dreams?
Luckily, I do have one thing going for me... awareness.I see what I am creating this morning. So, I began immediately shifting my goals and planning for today into dreaming about what the day will bring. Dreaming of how fun today will be, how many new people I will meet, how easy the flow of the day will go, and how I won't miss a moment of experience.
This shift automatically put me in a great frame of mind, as I took back control of my mood and experience, or the illusion of my experience anyway. Result? Joy and happiness once again.
Goals are important in life to help plan and execute tasks. However, when you lose sight of the experience because you are caught in the "tasks" try rethinking or dreaming up how you want your life to be. How beautiful, sweet, and easy. How fun exciting, and adventurous. As adults we have forgotten to do one thing....DREAM! Kids still have the market on that. Learn from them, they see endless possibilities with no limits and they are present in every moment of their experiences.
You can't see the forest for the trees...sound familiar? Take a look at your big picture today. What will your day looks like? Dream big! And most importantly, stay conscious in every moment, so you don't miss anything.
Be good to yourselves and each other.
Best,
Thomas
